Pika - The Farmers of the
Tundra |
![]() Pikas, unlike marmots, do not hibernate in the winter, but remain active. So, what do they eat? Hay that they have farmed in the summer and cache away. Each pika will cut, dry and store about 50 pounds of grass, almost the size of a bale of hay. During the winter the pika will dig tunnels between it's borrow and food caches thus remaining active all winter long. |
